Masala Fish Fry

Chunky pieces of king fish marinated in a spicy masala coated with semolina and fried to a crisp. This is a Sanjeev Kapoor exclusive recipe.

Ingredients list for Masala Fish Fry

  • 8 slices King fish (surmai)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Crushed black peppercorns
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 2 teaspoons Garlic paste
  • 2 teaspoons Red chilli paste
  • 2 teaspoons Fresh coriander leaf paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon Coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Clove powder
  • to taste Salt
  • 2 tablespo Oil
  • 2 teaspoons Lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup Semolina (rawa/suji)
  • 1/2 cup Rice flour
  • Onion rings
  • Lemon wedges

Method

  1. Mix together crushed black peppercorns, turmeric powder, garlic paste, red chilli paste, coriander leaf paste, coriander powder, clove powder, salt and 2 tablespoons oil. Add lemon juice and mix again.
  2. Apply this mixture to the fish pieces so that they are well covered with the masala. Set aside to marinate for about fifteen minutes.
  3. Heat sufficient oil in a non stick frying pan.
  4. Mix semolina and rice flour and spread on a plate. Coat the fish pieces with this mixture well.
  5. Shallow fry the fish pieces, in batches, in the hot oil on medium heat, turning sides, till both sides are golden. Drain on absorbent paper.
  6. Serve hot with onion rings and lemon wedges.
