Ingredients list for Gavthi Sukha Chicken
- 750 grams Country chicken , cut into 2 inch pieces on the bone
- 1 large Onion
- 2 tablespoons Oil
- 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
- 1 inch Ginger , cut into thin strips
- Masala
- 1 tablespoon Oil
- 2 tablespoons Coriander seeds
- 10-15 Black peppercorns
- 1 inch Cinnamon
- 6-8 Cloves
- 1 inch Ginger
- 4-5 cloves Garlic
- 1/2 cup Dried coconut slices , fried
- 2-3 Green chillies
Method
- Finely slice onion. Heat oil in a deep non-stick pan, add ¾ of the sliced onion and chicken, mix well and sauté on high heat for 1 minute, cover and cook for 4-5 minutes.
- Add turmeric powder, mix well and cover and cook on medium heat for 6-8 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Meanwhile to make the masala, heat oil in a shallow non-stick pan, add remaining onion, coriander seeds, black peppercorns, cinnamon and cloves, mix and sauté till fragrant and golden. Take the pan off the heat.
- Finely slice ginger and put into a bender jar, add garlic cloves, dried coconut slices, broken green chillies, onion-spice mixture and sufficient water and blend into a fine paste.
- Add this paste to the chicken mixture and mix well. Adjust the salt and mix well. Cover and cook till the chicken is cooked completely.
- Transfer into a serving bowl, garnish with ginger strips and serve hot.
