Chana Dal Tikki

A delicious and crispy Indian snack made with chana dal (split chickpeas) mixed with spices and herbs, shaped into patties, and fried to a golden brown. This is a Sanjeev Kapoor exclusive recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1½ cups split Bengal gram (chana dal), soaked for 2-3 hours
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh coriander leaves
  • 2-3 green chillies, finely chopped
  • ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon chaat masala powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • 1 inch ginger, finely chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons gram flour (besan)
  • Oil for shallow frying
  • Tomato ketchup to serve

Method

  1. In a food processor, add split Bengal gram, onion, fresh coriander, green chillies, turmeric powder, chaat masala, garam masala, ginger, and salt. Process to a coarse paste.
  2. Transfer the prepared mix in a bowl, add gram flour and mix well. Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape them into tikkis.
  3. Heat sufficient oil in a non-stick tawa, place the prepared tikkis and cook on both sides till golden brown and crispy. Drain on an absorbent paper
  4. Serve hot along with tomato ketchup.
