Why is it that when you are stuck at “what should we cook today” the answer is always “make some aloo!” Potatoes are like this…extremely popular and have multipurpose usage.

And did you always think that eating a potato will make you fat?
Well, don’t – it is a surprising source of vitamin C and provides useful amounts of starch, thiamine and niacin and around a hundred grams will provide about eighty calories.

Ingredients for Sukhe Aloo Recipe

  • Potatoes boiled 1 inch pieces 5

  • Cumin seeds

  • Ghee 2 tablespoons

  • Cumin seeds 2 teaspoons

  • Black peppercorns 4-5

  • Green chillies slit 3

  • Salt to taste

  • Black salt (kala namak) 1/4 teaspoon

  • Lemon juice 1 tablespoon

  • Fresh coriander leaves chopped 2 tablespoons

Method

Step 1

Roast one teaspoon of cumin seeds in a pan. Add black peppercorns and continue to roast till a nice aroma is given out.

Step 2

Heat ghee in a kadai and add the remaining cumin seeds and green chillies. When the cumin seeds begin to change colour add the potato pieces and mix.

Step 3

Pound the roasted cumin seeds and black peppercorns in a mortar with a pestle. Add salt, black salt, some of the pounded masala, lemon juice and coriander leaves to the potato mixture and mix. Add the remaining pounded masala and sprinkle some water.

Step 4

Cover and cook on low heat for two to three minutes.

Step 5

Serve hot.
