Indian food is also influenced by religious and cultural choices and traditions. 
Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Raw Banana with Greens Recipe

  • Raw Banana boiled with skin 2

  • Spinach 25-30

  • Green amaranth (chavli) 1 small bunch

  • Oil 2 tablespoons

  • Split skinless black gram (dhuli urad dal) 1/2 teaspoon

  • Mustard seeds 1/2 teaspoons

  • curry leaves broken 2 tablespoon

  • asafoetida 1/4 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Scraped fresh coconut 3 tablespoons

  • Green chillies 2

  • Ginger 1 inch

  • Garlic cloves 3-4

  • Chana dal roasted 1 tablespoon

  • Turmeric powder a pinch

  • Ginger cut into thin strips 1 inch


Step 1

Heat oil in a pan, add split black gram, mustard seeds, broken red chillies, curry leaves and asafoetida and saute till the seeds splutter.

Step 2

Add spinach, amaranth and salt and mix. Add ¼ cup water and mix. Cover and cook.

Step 3

Grind together coconut, green chillies, ginger, garlic, roasted chana with little water.

Step 4

Peel the bananas, slice into round pieces and add to the pan. Add a pinch of turmeric powder and mix.

Step 5

Add the ground paste and mix. Cover and cook for 4-5 minutes.

Step 6

Transfer into a serving dish and serve hot garnished with ginger strips.
