Ingredients list for Onion Tomato Chutney

  • 1 medium Onion chopped
  • 4 medium Tomatoes chopped
  • 2 tablespoons Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Split black gram skinless (dhuli urad dal)
  • 2 Dried red chillies broken
  • to taste Salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon Asafoetida
  • 4 teaspoons Vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Tamarind pulp
  • 100 grams Brown sugar

Method

  1. Heat oil in a non stick pan, add mustard seeds and when they splutter add urad dal, red chillies and sauté till fragrant.
  2. Add onions and sauté till they soften. Add tomatoes and salt and mix well. Cover and cook.Add asfoetida, vinegar, tamarind pulp and mix well.
  3. Cover and continue to cook.Add brown sugar and mix till it blends completely with the tomatoes. Serve hot or cold.
