Indian cuisine comprises of a number of regional cuisines.  The diversity in soil type, climate, culture, ethnic group and occupations, these cuisines differ from each other mainly due to the use of locally available spices, herbs, vegetables and fruits. Indian food is also influenced by religious and cultural choices and traditions. 
Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Jain Samosa Recipe

  • Raw Banana boiled, peeled and mashed 4-5

  • Refined Flour kneaded into dough with carom seeds 1 1/2 cups

  • Boiled green peas 1/2 cup

  • Turmeric powder 1/4 teaspoon

  • Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon

  • Garam masala powder 2 teaspoons

  • Green chillies chopped 2

  • Salt to taste

  • Sugar 1/2 teaspoon

  • Lemon juice 2 teaspoons

  • Fresh coriander leaves chopped 1 tablespoon

  • Oil for deep-frying


Step 1

Combine raw bananas, green peas, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, garam masala, green chillies, salt, sugar, lemon juice and coriander leaves in a bowl and mix well.

Step 2

Heat sufficient oil in a kadai.

Step 3

Divide the dough into eight equal portions and shape them into balls. Roll out balls into oval shaped thin puris.

Step 4

Halve the puris. Fold each half into a cone. Fill the cone with the raw bananas mixture and seal the edges with water to make samosa.

Step 5

Deep-fry the samosas in hot oil till golden. Drain on absorbent paper.

Step 6

Arrange on a serving plate and serve hot.
