Ingredients
- 1 small green papaya, peeled and cut into thin strips
- 2 small carrots, cut into thin strips
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 2-3 dried red chillies
- 2 garlic cloves
- 1/2 cup scraped fresh coconut
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 2 teaspoons oil
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon split skinless black gram (dhuli urad dal)
- 8-10 curry leaves
- 2 medium onions, finely chopped
- Salt to taste
Method
- Grind together cumin seeds, red chilies, garlic, coconut and turmeric powder to a coarse paste without using water.
- Heat oil in a non-stick pan, add mustard seeds and once they splutter, add black grams and curry leaves and sauté for thirty seconds.
- Add onions and sauté till the onions turn golden. Add ground paste, papaya, carrot and salt, mix well and sauté for four to five minutes.
- Transfer into a serving bowl and serve hot.
