During the 18th and 19th centuries, the Americans developed a number of new foods.  What characterised the American cuisine is the adaptation of a fusion of multiple ethnic cooking styles. During this period food production and presentation became more industrialised.

Ingredients for Green Banana Salad Recipe

  • Green unripe bananas 2

  • Salt to taste

  • Cucumber chopped 1 medium

  • Celery , thinly sliced 2 stalks

  • Carrot , coarsley grated 1 medium

  • Lettuce leaves a small bunch

  • For dressing

  • Olive oil 3 tablespoons

  • Vinegar 1 tablespoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Black pepper powder 1/4 teaspoon

  • Garlic crushed 1 clove

  • Mustard paste 2 teaspoons


Step 1

Peel the bananas and cook in boiling salted water for ten minutes, or until just tender. Drain, cool and cut crosswise into half-inch slices.

Step 2

Place all the ingredients for the dressing in a small glass jar and shake well to mix.

Step 3

Mix together the banana, cucumber, celery and carrot in a large bowl. Add the dressing and toss well to mix. Serve on a bed of lettuce.
