Favourite seafood? Prawns, prawns and more of prawns. A wide variety of small crustaceans, tiny relatives of the lobster, are known as prawns. Prawns are normally translucent when raw but get their distinctive pink or red colour on being cooked. one word of caution – if buying unpeeled prawns, smell for freshness and look for bright, shiny shells that have some spring left in them.

Ingredients for Crispy Fried Coconut Prawns Recipe

  • Jumbo prawns , shelled and deveined with tails intact 16-20

  • Fresh coconut , grated 1 cup

  • Oil to deep fry

  • Curry leaves 15-20

  • Refined flour (maida) 3 tablespoons

  • Ginger paste 1 tablespoon

  • Garlic paste 1 tablespoon

  • Egg 1

  • Salt to taste

  • Red chilli powder 1¼ teaspoons

  • Lemon , juice extracted 1

Method

Step 1

Finely chop curry leaves and put them into a bowl. Add 2 tbsps refined flour, ginger paste, garlic paste and egg and mix till smooth. Add salt and 1 tsp red chilli powder and mix again. Add the juice of 1 lemon and mix well.

Step 2

Add the prawns to the masala paste and mix well. Set aside to marinate for ½ hour.

Step 3

Heat sufficient oil in a kadai.

Step 4

Spread grated coconut on a plate, add 1 tbsp refined flour, salt and ¼ tsp red chilli powder and mix well.

Step 5

Roll each prawn in the coconut mixture and slide into hot oil. Deep fry till golden and crisp. Drain on absorbent paper.

Step 6

Arrange them on a serving plate and serve hot.
