Ingredients

  • 1½ cups salted fried moong dal 
  • 300 grams boneless chicken breasts, cut into thin pieces
  • 1½ tablespoons ginger-garlic paste
  • ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon + a pinch red chilli powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh coriander leaves
  • 2 eggs
  • Refined flour (maida) for coating
  • Oil for deep frying
  • Green chutney to serve

Method

  1. Take chicken in a large bowl, add ginger-garlic paste, turmeric powder, 1 teaspoon red chilli powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder, salt and coriander leaves and mix well. Set aside to marinate for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Transfer the salted fried moong dal in a zip lock bag and coarsely crush it with a rolling pin. Transfer onto a plate.
  3. Heat sufficient oil in a kadai.
  4. Break eggs into a small bowl, add a pinch of red chilli powder and salt and whisk well with a fork. Take some refined flour on a plate. 
  5. Coat each chicken strip with refined flour, dip it in the eggs mixture and coat it well with crushed moong dal.
  6. Gently slide the chicken strips, a few at a time, into hot oil and deep-fry till golden brown and crisp. Drain on absorbent paper.
  7. Arrange the chicken on a serving plate and serve hot with green chutney.
