Ingredients list for Pyaaz Ki Tarkari

  • 4-5 medium Onion
  • 3 tablespoons Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Onion seeds (kalonji)
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger-garlic paste
  • 4-5 Green chilli, halved
  • 1/2 teaspoon Red chilli powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • to taste Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Fennel seed (saunf) powder
  • 1 tablespoon Tamarind paste
  • 3 tablespoons Jaggery (gur), grated


  1. Heat oil in a non-stick wok. Quarter the onions and separate into 2 layers.
  2. When the oil is hot add onions seeds and sauté lightly. Add ginger-garlic paste and green chillies and sauté for 1 minute.
  3. Add onions and sauté till the onions soften. Add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, salt, fennel powder, tamarind paste and jaggery.
  4. Add a little water and mix well. Cook for 2-3 minutes. Serve hot.
