Ingredients list for Matar Samosa

  • 1 cup Fresh green peas
  • 150 grams Ready made samosa dough roundels halved
  • 1 teaspoon Ghee
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 1-2 Green chillies chopped
  • 1 inch Ginger finely chopped
  • 1 Small onion finely chopped
  • to taste Salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Garam masala powder
  • to deep fry Oil
  • to serve Green chutney
  • to serve Sweet tamarind chutney
  • to garnish Fresh coriander leaves chopped

Method

  1. Heat ghee in a non-stick pan, add cumin seeds, sauté till the colour changes. Add green chillies and ginger, mix and sauté for 1 minute.
  2. Add onion, mix and sauté onion is till translucent. Add fresh green peas and mix well. Add 3-4 tbsps water and mix well. Add salt and garam masala powder, mix well, cover and cook for 5 minutes or till the peas are cooked.
  3. Mash the cooked mixture with a masher and cook for a minute. Take it off the heat and set aside to cool.
  4. Heat sufficient oil in a kadai.
  5. Apply a little water on the straight edge, shape it into a cone and press lightly to seal. Stuff the cone with some pea mixture and seal the top with a little more water to shape it like a samosa. Make more samosas similarly.
  6. Slide the samosas into hot oil and deep-fry till golden brown and crisp. Drain on absorbent paper.
  7. Pour some green chutney and sweet tamarind chutney in each of serving plates and place a samosa over the chutneys. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
