Ingredients list for Macher Jhol Bhaat - SK Khazana

  • 4 Rohu darnes
  • 2 Medium potatoes peeled and cut into wedges
  • to taste Salt
  • 1/ teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • to shallow fry Mustard oil
  • 2 tablespoons Oil
  • 2 Bay leaves
  • 2 Medium onions grated
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger-garlic paste
  • 2 Medium tomatoes grated
  • 1 teaspoon Red chilli powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cumin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Sugar
  • to serve Steamed rice

Method

  1. Take fish darnes in a bowl, add potatoes, salt and turmeric powder and mix well with your hand.
  2. Heat sufficient mustard oil in a non-stick pan, add fish and potato pieces and shallow-fry till crisp. Drain on absorbent paper.
  3. Heat oil in a deep non-stick pan, add bay leaves and onions and sauté till brown.
  4. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté till raw flavors go away. Add tomatoes and sauté till pulpy.
  5. Add red chilli powder and cumin powder and mix well. Add 1½ cups water and mix well.
  6. Add salt and sugar, mix well and bring the mixture to a boil. Add the fried fish and potatoes and mix gently. Bring to a boil and take the pan off the heat.
  7. Transfer the fish into a serving bowl and serve hot with a bowl of steamed rice.
