Chicken Wrapped Prawns

Prawns wrapped in boneless chicken strips, dipped in spicy cornstarch batter, deep-fried and further cooked in a spicy sauce. This is a Sanjeev Kapoor exclusive recipe.

Ingredients list for Chicken Wrapped Prawns

  • 250 grams Boneless chicken cut into thin strips
  • 12-16 Prawns (medium) shelled and deveined with tails intact
  • for deep-frying Oil 1 tablespoon +
  • 2 teaspoons Cornflour/ corn starch
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Crushed black peppercorns
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger-garlic paste
  • ½ teaspoon Red chilli powder
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 tablespoon Garlic chopped
  • 2 Green chillies chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Red chilli sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Tomato ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Soy sauce
  • 4-5 + for garnishing Fresh basil leaves


  1. Insert a toothpick through each prawn. Wrap the prawns with the chicken strips. Set aside.
  2. Heat sufficient oil in a pan.
  3. Combine cornstarch, salt, crushed peppercorns, ginger-garlic paste, chilli powder and egg in a bowl. Whisk well with a little water to make a smooth batter.
  4. Dip the chicken wrapped prawns in the batter and deep-fry in hot oil till golden. Drain on absorbent paper.
  5. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a non-stick pan. Add garlic and sauté till light golden.
  6. Add green chillies, mix and sauté. Add chilli sauce, tomato ketchup and soy sauce, mix well and cook for 2 minutes.
  7. Add little water and mix well. Add salt, crushed peppercorns, torn basil leaves and fried wrapped prawns. Mix well and cook for a minute.
  8. Garnish with basil leaves and serve hot with salad leaves.
