Ingredients for Brown Bread Upma Recipe

  • Brown bread 6-8 slices

  • Virgin olive oil 1 tablespoon

  • Onion 1 medium

  • Mustard seeds 1/4 teaspoon

  • Cumin seeds 1/2 teaspoon

  • Asafoetida 1/4 teaspoon

  • Green chilli 2

  • Potato boiled and peeled 1 medium

  • Turmeric powder 1/4 teaspoon

  • Red chilli powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Fresh coriander leaves few sprigs

  • Lemon juice 1 teaspoon

Method

Step 1

Heat extra virgin olive oil in a non stick pan. Chop onion.

Step 2

Add mustard seeds to the pan and when they splutter, add cumin seeds, asafoetida and onion and sauté.

Step 3

If you wish, you can also add a few curry leaves.

Step 4

Chop green chillies and cut potato into medium cubes.

Step 5

When onion softens, add green chillies and potato and mix well.

Step 6

Add turmeric powder and red chilli powder.

Step 7

Tear bread slices into small pieces and add and mix well.Sprinkle a little water (or buttermilk), add salt and mix well.

Step 8

Chop coriander leaves and add and mix gently.

Step 9

Add lemon juice if you wish and mix gently. Serve hot.
