Ingredients list for Brown Bread Upma
- 6-8 slices Brown bread
- 1 tablespoon Virgin olive oil
- 1 medium Onion
- 1/4 teaspoon Mustard seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon Cumin seeds
- 1/4 teaspoon Asafoetida
- 2 Green chilli
- 1 medium Potato boiled and peeled
- 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Red chilli powder
- to taste Salt
- few sprigs Fresh coriander leaves
- 1 teaspoon Lemon juice
Method
- Heat extra virgin olive oil in a non stick pan. Chop onion.
- Add mustard seeds to the pan and when they splutter, add cumin seeds, asafoetida and onion and sauté.
- If you wish, you can also add a few curry leaves.
- Chop green chillies and cut potato into medium cubes.
- When onion softens, add green chillies and potato and mix well.
- Add turmeric powder and red chilli powder.
- Tear bread slices into small pieces and add and mix well.Sprinkle a little water (or buttermilk), add salt and mix well.
- Chop coriander leaves and add and mix gently.
- Add lemon juice if you wish and mix gently. Serve hot.
