Why is it that when you are stuck at “what should we cook today” the answer is always “make some aloo!” Potatoes are like this…extremely popular and have multipurpose usage.

And did you always think that eating a potato will make you fat?
Well, don’t – it is a surprising source of vitamin C and provides useful amounts of starch, thiamine and niacin and around a hundred grams will provide about eighty calories.

Ingredients for Batata cha Kachrya Recipe

  • Potatoes peeled 4 medium

  • Oil 1 tablespoon

  • Green chillies 2

  • Mustard seeds 1 teaspoon

  • Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon

  • Asafoetida a pinch

  • Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

Method

Step 1

Heat oil in a non-stick pan.

Step 2

Slit and chop green chillies. Slice potatoes.

Step 3

Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida and chopped green chillies and sauté for 30 seconds.

Step 4

Add sliced potatoes, turmeric powder and salt and toss to mix. Add some water, cover and cook till potatoes are done.

Step 5

Serve hot.
