Baked Matar Ghugra

Ghugra, also known as gujiya in the North, is generally a deep-fried sweet dumpling. Here we have not only turned them into a savoury but also made them healthier by baking them This recipe has featured on the show Khanakhazana.

Ingredients

  • 1 green peas, boiled and coarsely crushed
  • 200 grams readymade puff pastry sheet
  • 1 tablespoon oil + to grease
  • 1-2 green chillies, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Method

  1. Heat oil in a non-stick pan, add green chillies, sauté for a second, add green peas, sauté on medium heat till the mixture is dry.
  2. Add garam masala, salt, red chilli powder, sugar, lemon juice and mix well. 
  3. Transfer onto a plate and let it cool down.
  4. Preheat oven to 180°C. Lightly grease a baking tray.
  5. Cut puff pastry sheet into thick strips and roll each strip into a ring (like for lachcha parantha). Flatten each ring and roll out into thin disc. Place a portion of stuffing on one side, apply water on the edges and fold other side over the stuffing and press the edges to seal. Arrange them on the baking tray. Keep the tray in the
