Be a kid or a teenage or an adult or an oldie, chicken lovers trend all over the world at all times! One meat that is a favourite of all beyond belief! When cooked, it can be presented in many guises. Sauté it, fry it, toss it, bake it, steam it – eat it the way you want to. Whatever its form may be upon being cooked, its flavour may change but its flesh remains high in protein, low in fat and can be digested easily.

Cook time : 26-30 minutes

Ingredients for Tomato Chicken Recipe

  • Chicken 1 kilogram

  • Tomato puree 1 cup

  • Onions 2 medium

  • Ginger 1 inch piece

  • Oil 1/4 cup

  • Star anise 1

  • Cinnamon 2 inch stick

  • Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon

  • Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Sugar 1 teaspoon


Step 1

Skin and cut chicken into eight pieces. Wash the pieces well and pat them dry. Peel, wash and thinly slice onions. Peel, wash and finely chop ginger.

Step 2

Heat oil in a pan on moderate heat. Add star anise, cinnamon, sliced onions and chicken pieces. Stir fry for five to six minutes. In a bowl mix red chilli powder and turmeric powder and a little water to make a paste.

Step 3

Add this to the chicken and mix well. When the chicken pieces are coated with the spices, add tomato puree and one cup of hot water. Add salt and sugar and mix well. Cover the pan and allow the mixture to simmer until the chicken is tender. There chicken pieces should be covered with a rich red gravy.

Step 4

Remove the star anise and cinnamon and serve hot.
