Treasure house of vitamins and minerals, spinach must be included in the week's menu. The usage can be varied: chopped spinach leaves cooked with potatoes is a semi-wet vegetable with rotis, a few spinach leaves thrown in with mixed vegetables and turned into a soup is lovely on a cold winter night, chopped and blanched spinach makes a different sort of raita, spinach puree can be used in cutlets or kababs, the list goes on.

Ingredients for Spinach Bake Recipe

  • Spinach 3 bunches

  • Potatoes 3 medium

  • Oil 1 tablespoon

  • Garlic chopped 2-3 cloves

  • Salt to taste

  • White pepper powder to taste

  • Butter 1 tablespoon

  • White sauce 2 cup

  • Nutmeg powder a pinch

  • Cheese 1/2 cup

  • Bread crumbs 1/2 cup

  • Butter cubes 2

  • Cream 2 tablespoons

Method

Step 1

Clean the spinach, remove the stems and wash thoroughly. Blanch, drain and chop. Heat butter and oil in a pan. Add chopped garlic and sauté. Add spinach, salt, white pepper powder and stir.

Step 2

Line a baking dish with this. Boil potatoes with some salt. Peel and slice. Arrange some of these slices on top of the spinach layer in the baking dish. Sprinkle some salt and pepper powder. Season the white sauce with nutmeg powder.

Step 3

Pour this over the potato layer. Sprinkle cheese and bread crumbs over the white sauce. Put some butter cubes on top. Bake in a preheated oven at 150°C for 10 minutes. Dot with fresh cream and serve immediately.
