History of Indian cuisine dates back to nearly 5,000-years ago when various groups and cultures interacted with India that led to a diversity of flavours and regional cuisines.
Indian cuisine comprises of a number of regional cuisines.  The diversity in soil type, climate, culture, ethnic group and occupations, these cuisines differ from each other mainly due to the use of locally available spices, herbs, vegetables and fruits. Indian food is also influenced by religious and cultural choices and traditions. 
Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Peanut Tikki Recipe

  • Roasted peanuts coarsely ground 1/2 cup

  • Potatoes boiled, peeled and mashed 2 medium

  • Corn kernels cooked 1/2 cup

  • Red capsicum finely chopped 1/2 medium

  • Salt to taste

  • Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon

  • Bread crumbs 1/4 cup

  • Fresh pomegranate pearls optional 1/4 cup

  • Oil 6 tablespoons

  • Sweet tamarind chutney as required


Step 1

Mix together the potatoes, corn, red capsicum, salt, red chilli powder and breadcrumbs in a bowl.

Step 2

Divide into eight equal portions and roll into round balls. Stuff each ball with fresh pomegranate pearls.

Step 3

Heat the oil in a non stick pan. Place the coarsely ground peanuts in a plate. Roll the stuffed balls in the peanuts and shape them into tikkis.

Step 4

Place the tikkis in the pan and fry till golden on both sides. Drain onto an absorbent paper.

Step 5

Serve hot with tamarind chutney.
