Italian cuisine has developed through centuries of social and political changes, with roots stretching to antiquity.  Italian cuisine is simple and a number of dishes having only four to eight ingredients.  They rely mostly on the quality of ingredients rather than elaborate preparation.
Noteworthy changes in Italian cuisine happened with the discovery of the New World and the introduction of potatoes, tomatoes, bell peppers and maize, which are now an integral part of this cuisine.  Italian cuisine is known for its regional diversity each with a distinct taste.  This cuisine today is probably one of the most popular in the world.

Ingredients for Mushroom and Basil Pasta Recipe

  • Penne pasta sliced 8

  • Button mushrooms boiled 2 cups

  • Fresh basil leaves torn 7-8

  • Butter 3 tablespoons

  • Garlic chopped 1 tablespoon

  • Refined flour (maida) 1 1/2 tablespoons

  • Milk 1 1/2 cups

  • Black peppercorns crushed 1/4 teaspoon

  • Dried mixed herbs 1 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Processed cheese grated 2 tablespoons

  • Fresh parsley chopped 2 1/2 teaspoons


Step 1

Heat two tablespoons butter in a non-stick pan, add garlic and sauté till light brown.

Step 2

Add mushrooms, mix and sauté on high heat for one to two minutes.

Step 3

Add refined flour, mix well and sauté. Add remaining butter, mix well and sauté for a couple of minutes.

Step 4

Add milk and cook till thick, stirring continuously, to avoid lumps.

Step 5

Add crushed peppercorns, mixed herbs and salt and mix well.

Step 6

Add one tablespoon grated cheese and mix well. Add one teaspoon parsley, basil leaves and mix well.

Step 7

Add penne paste and mix well and cook till it gets heated through. Switch off the heat.

Step 8

Add one teaspoon parsley and mix well.

Step 9

Serve hot garnished with the remaining grated cheese and remaining parsley.
