Ingredients list for Lauki Moong Dal

  • 4 inch piece Bottle Gourd peeled and grated
  • 1 cup Skinless Split Green Gram soaked
  • to taste Salt
  • 1/2 inch piece Ginger chopped
  • 8-10 Fresh mint leaves
  • 1 teaspoon Oil
  • a pinch Asafoetida
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 1/2 inch stick Cinnamon
  • 6-8 Curry leaves
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons Lemon juice

Method

  1. Boil the moong dal with four cups water, salt and ginger in a deep non-stick pan till it is almost done.
  2. Add the lauki and cook. Add mint leaves and continue to cook till the dal is completely done. Mash it with a hand blender. Heat oil in non-stick pan. Add asafoetida, cumin seeds, cinnamon and curry leaves and sauté till fragrant. Add it to the dal and mix
  3. Add lemon juice and serve hot with steamed rice.
