Wonder Gravy

This is especially for those working women who have very little time to cook elaborate meals for their families. If you can make some things in advance it makes their cooking process easier. For example make this gravy and store in the refrigerator. You can cook vegetarian or non-vegetarian dish using this gravy.

  • 4 tablespoons oil
  • 2 large onions, finely chopped
  • 1½ tablespoons ginger-garlic paste 
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 1½ teaspoons coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 cup fresh tomato puree
  • ½ cup canned tomato puree
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon cashewnut paste
  • ½ teaspoon garam masala powder 
  • 2 teaspoons honey


  1. Heat oil in a non-stick pan, add onions and sauté till they turn golden brown.
  2. Add ginger-garlic paste, mix and sauté for 2-3 minutes or till the raw smell goes away. 
  3. Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder and cumin powder, mix and sauté for 1-2 minutes. 
  4. Add fresh tomato puree, canned tomato puree and salt and mix well. Cover and cook till the oil separates.
  5. Add cashewnut paste and garam masala powder and mix well. Add honey and mix. Switch the heat off.
  6. Allow the gravy to cool completely before storing in an airtight container. Store refrigerated. 
  7. Use this for making any dish of your choice.
