Ingredients
- 4 medium red apples
- 1 medium green apple
- 1 cup refined flour (maida)
- 1 cup whole wheat flour (gehun ka atta)
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- ¼ teaspoon cinnamon powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 cup melted butter
- 1 cup milk
- Coffee to serve
Method
- Preheat oven to 180º C.
- Sift refined flour, whole wheat flour and powdered sugar into a large bowl. Add cinnamon power, baking soda and baking powder and mix well.
- Peel 3 red apples and chop them roughly. Discard the seeds, transfer the apple pieces into a blender jar and blend into a fine paste.
- Put the blended paste into another large bowl, add melted butter and milk and whisk till well combined.
- Add the flour mixture in two batches into the apple mixture and mix gently till a smooth batter is formed.
- Transfer the batter into a greased and lined 8 inch square cake tin. Gently tap the tin to remove air bubbles if any and spread it evenly.
- Cut the remaining red apple and green apple into wedges, discard the seeds and thinly slice each wedge.
- Arrange the red apple slices and green apple slices alternatively and place them on top of the cake until the entire top is covered with the apple slices.
- Place the cake tin in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes.
- Remove the cake tin from the oven and allow to cool slightly.
- De-mould the cake, cut into squares and arrange on a serving plate. Serve with cups of hot coffee.
