Ingredients list for Matar Wale Chawal

  • 1 cup Green peas (matar)
  • 1 1/2 cups Basmati rice soaked for 30 minutes and drained
  • 2 tablespoons Ghee
  • 5-6 Black peppercorns
  • 2 Green cardamoms
  • 2 Cloves
  • 2 Bay leaves
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Cumin seeds
  • to taste Salt


  1. Heat ghee in a deep non-stick pan, add black peppercorns, green cardamoms, cloves, bay leaves, cumin seeds, mix and saute till fragrant.
  2. Add rice and mix well. Add salt and 3 cups water, mix well and let the mixture come to a boil.
  3. Add green peas, mix well, cover and cook till rice is completely done.
  4. Transfer into a serving bowl and serve hot.
