Masala Hazelnuts

Hazelnuts are coated in a spiced gram flour batter and deep-fried till crisp. A crunchy, nutty snack with bold Indian masala flavours. This recipe has featured on the show Khanakhazana.

Ingredients 

  • 1½ cups hazelnuts
  • 3/4 cup gram flour
  • Salt to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • ½  teaspoon chaat masala
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • A pinch of baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 teaspoon chaat masala for serving

Method

  1. Place hazelnuts in a big bowl. Add gram flour, salt, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, chaat masala, garam masala powder and baking powder and mix.
  2. Sprinkle one-fourth cup of water so as to coat the hazelnuts with the masala properly. Add two tablespoons of oil and mix again.
  3. Heat sufficient oil in a kadai. When moderately hot, drop a few hazelnuts at a time, taking care that they do not form lumps, and deep-fry till golden brown and crisp.
  4. Drain and place on an absorbent paper. Sprinkle chaat masala.
  5. Cool and serve or store in an airtight container.
