Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Masala Hazelnuts Recipe

  • Hazelnuts 1 1/2 cups

  • Gram flour 3/4 cup

  • Salt to taste

  • Turmeric powder 1/4 teaspoon

  • Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon

  • Chaat masala 1/2 teaspoon

  • Garam masala powder 1 teaspoon

  • Baking powder a pinch

  • Oil 2 tablespoons

  • TO SERVE

  • Chaat masala 1 teaspoon

Method

Step 1

Place hazelnuts in a big bowl. Add gram flour, salt, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, chaat masala, garam masala powder and baking powder and mix.

Step 2

Sprinkle one fourth cup of water so as to coat hazelnuts with the masala properly. Add two tablespoons of oil and mix again.

Step 3

Heat sufficient oil in a kadai. When moderately hot drop a few hazelnuts at a time, taking care that they do not form lumps, and deep-fry till golden brown and crisp.

Step 4

Drain and place on an absorbent paper. Sprinkle chaat masala.

Step 5

Cool and serve or store in an airtight container.
