Ingredients list for Lucknowi Dal

  • 1 cup Split Pigeon Pea soaked
  • to taste Milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 2 Green chillies slit
  • a few sprigs Fresh coriander leaves
  • 4 Dried red chillies
  • 2 tablespoons Ghee
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • a pinch Asafoetida
  • 1 cup Milk

Method

  1. Drain and put dal in a pressure cooker, add 2 cups water, salt, turmeric powder, green chillies and cook till 2 whistles are given out. Open the lid when the pressure reduces completely.
  2. Chop coriander leaves. Chop red chillies and remove seeds.
    Heat ghee in a non stick pan, add cumin seeds, asafoetida and red chillies and saute till fragrant.
  3. Add milk to dal and mix well.
    Add the tempering to the dal and mix well.
  4. Add coriander leaves and mix well.
    Serve hot.
