Ingredients for Hearty Red Lentil Soup Recipe

  • Split Red Lentil soaked 1 cup

  • Basmati Rice soaked 1/4 cup

  • Onions roughly chopped 2 medium

  • Carrots roughly chopped 2 medium

  • Tomatoes roughly chopped 2 medium

  • Black peppercorns 8-10

  • Butter 1 teaspoon

  • Garlic chopped 1 teaspoon

  • Crushed red chillies 1 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Milk 1/4 cup

  • Mint leaves crushed 2 teaspoons


Step 1

Drain the lentils, rice and put into a pressure cooker. Add the onions, carrots, tomatoes, peppercorns and mix.

Step 2

Add four cups of water and pressure cook till the pressure is released thrice (three whistles). Allow the mixture to cool.

Step 3

Transfer into a blender and grind into a fine puree.

Step 4

Heat the butter in a non-stick pan. Add the garlic and sauté till well browned.

Step 5

Add the puree, crushed red chillies, salt and milk and mix well.

Step 6

Add water if you feel the consistency is too thick. Serve hot garnished with mint leaves.
