The cuisine of The United States is a rich amalgamation of peoples, religions and cultures thanks to the immigrants from different parts of the world.  They brought with them their local ingredients as well as cooking styles with them.  Yet amidst all these varieties Chinese and Italian cuisines dominate.
During the 18th and 19th centuries, the Americans developed a number of new foods.  What characterised the American cuisine is the adaptation of a fusion of multiple ethnic cooking styles. During this period food production and presentation became more industrialised.

Prep Time : 11-15 minutes

Cook time : 16-20 minutes

Serve : 4

Level Of Cooking : Easy

Taste : Mild

Ingredients for Hamburger Recipe

  • Burger buns 4

  • Mutton mince 400 grams

  • Bread crumbs (optional) 1/2 cup

  • Salt to taste

  • Crushed black peppercorns 1/2 teaspoon

  • Egg 1

  • Mayonnaise 4 tablespoons

  • Tomato sauce 2 tablespoons

  • Mustard paste 1 tablespoon

  • Oil 3 tablespoons

  • Butter 2 tablespoons

  • Lettuce leaves , shredded 1 bunch

  • Cucumber , sliced 1 medium

  • Tomatoes , sliced 2 medium

  • Onions , sliced 2 medium

  • French fries as required

Method

Step 1

In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the mutton mince, breadcrumbs, salt, half of the crushed peppercorns and egg together. Mix mayonnaise with tomato sauce, mustard paste and season with salt and remaining crushed peppercorns.

Step 2

Divide the mince mixture in four balls and flatten them to form a thick pattie. Keep the mixture in the refrigerator for half an hour. The size of the pattie should be larger than the size of the bun in diameter as it will shrink on cooking.

Step 3

Heat oil in a non-stick pan or tawa and shallow fry the mutton patties, till they are golden brown, on both sides. Slit the burger buns in half, apply butter on each half and toast on a tawa or grill.

Step 4

Remove and place on a working top. Apply mayonnaise mix to the shredded lettuce. Place the lettuce leaves on the base half of the burger and over it place cucumber and tomato slices.

Step 5

Now place the mutton pattie and finally a slice of onion. Put the other half of the bun and close. Repeat the process with the remaining buns.

Step 6

Secure with wooden sticks across so the pattie is held within. Serve hot accompanied with French fries.
