Maha Shivratri Dessert Edition

Once again the festival that is celebrated with extreme joy and delight is back- Maha Shivratri. An occasion that is dedicated to Lord Shiva, this day witnesses a number of dedicated devotees rejoicing and celebrating with their loved ones.

Generally, Indians who believe in and celebrate this massive festival, either go on a fast or go completely vegetarian. During their fast they avoid certain vegetables and all meats to pay their respects to their one and only creator- Lord Shiva. Like every other festival in India, this one does not fall back when it comes to food. Who said that food prepared during a fast is not delicious? If you believe so then you are missing out on some exceptional recipes that can be consumed during a fast like Sabudana Khichdi, Kuttu Ki Puri and a lot more.

Let’s take a moment to talk about another dining element that is never missed out during a festival or celebration. You guessed it right; I am talking about desserts! As the Indians say, eating something sweet on a big day is a ‘Shubh’ act. Here I am, bringing to you, an excellent list of desserts that can be prepared on Maha Shivratri and these, as I believe, are as essential as any other food you may consume:

Rabdi

The easiest and most delicious dessert that anyone can make is Rabdi. Its preparation includes reducing heavy cream and mixing it up with Khoya that is topped with nuts and raisins when it is ready. This is the perfect dessert to prepare on Maha Shivratri as it can be consumed by devotees who are on a fast.

Kaju Katli

If you ever offer an Indian Kaju Katli, their resistance will lose over their will to pick up a piece and gobble it up. That’s how much Indians love Kaju Katli. It is an easy dessert to prepare that is loaded with the flavour of Kaju (of course, the name suggests that) and its soft texture makes it a desirable dessert to consume. On the Occasion of Maha Shivratri, a whole host of guests drop by to share a few moments with each other during this celebration and Kaju Katli will be the perfect way to greet them.

Atte ka Ladoo

If you are someone who enjoys the festival and wants to celebrate it the right way but you are also someone who does not have time to make the required preparations, then this is the perfect recipe for you. A simple dish, Atte ka Laddo does not require an extreme amount of effort to prepare and can be stored in an airtight container. All you need to do on the auspicious day is plate the ladoo, serve, and watch your guests be mesmerised by the delicious dessert. Unlike Rabdi you can only have it if you are not fasting, but want to feel festive.

Thandai

Thandai is a traditional Indian beverage that is especially popular during festivals like Maha Shivratri and Holi. This refreshing drink is made with a blend of nuts, seeds, and spices, which not only give it a unique flavor but also provide a cooling effect. To prepare Thandai, you'll need ingredients like almonds, cashews, pistachios, poppy seeds, fennel seeds, cardamom, black peppercorns, and saffron. These ingredients are soaked, ground into a paste, and mixed with milk. The mixture is then sweetened with sugar or jaggery and flavored with rose water or kewra water. The drink is chilled and garnished with slivers of nuts and saffron strands before serving. Thandai is not only delicious but also nutritious, making it a perfect treat for fasting periods.

Sabudana Strawberry Kheer

Sabudana Strawberry Kheer is a delightful twist on traditional Sabudana Kheer. This creamy pudding is made by soaking and cooking sago pearls (sabudana) in milk with sugar until tender. It's flavored with cardamom and garnished with dry fruits like almonds, cashews, and pistachios. Fresh strawberries add a refreshing fruity twist. This dessert is not only delicious but also easy to digest, making it perfect for fasting devotees.

Trust me, these desserts will be the highlight of your celebration this year. Also, these are so easy to prepare and extremely delicious to eat. To ensure that your celebration is a super hit, you can prepare these desserts and watch your guests be amazed by your talent.

Maha Shivratri ki Hardik Shubhkamnayein! 🙏
