Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Saijan Phalli Tadkewali Recipe

  • Drumsticks peeled and cut into 3 inch pieces 6

  • Scraped fresh coconut 3/4 teaspoon

  • Oil 2 tablespoons

  • Coriander seeds 1 tablespoon

  • Dried red chillies 4

  • Curry leaves 12-15

  • Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon

  • Black pepper powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Dried mango powder (amchur) 1 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Scraped fresh coconut 1/2 cup

Method

Step 1

Heat 2½ cups water with ½ tsp turmeric powder and a little salt in a deep non-stick pan. Add drumsticks, cover and cook for 10-15 minutes or till the drumsticks are cooked. Strain and keep aside in a bowl.

Step 2

Heat oil in another non-stick pan. Add coriander seeds and red chillies and sauté for half a minute.

Step 3

Add curry leaves, drumsticks, red chilli powder, remaining turmeric powder, black pepper powder, dried mango powder and salt and toss well.

Step 4

Add coconut and mix well.

Step 5

Transfer into a serving bowl and serve hot.
