Why is it that when you are stuck at “what should we cook today” the answer is always “make some aloo!” Potatoes are like this…extremely popular and have multipurpose usage.

And did you always think that eating a potato will make you fat?
Well, don’t – it is a surprising source of vitamin C and provides useful amounts of starch, thiamine and niacin and around a hundred grams will provide about eighty calories.

Ingredients for Safed Aloo - SK Khazana Recipe

  • Potato medium, boiled and peeled 4

  • Almonds blanched and peeled 10-12

  • Poppy seeds 1 tablespoon

  • Yogurt 3/4 cup

  • Mawa 1/2 cup

  • Salt to taste

  • Green cardamom powder 1/4 teaspoon

  • Oil 2 tablespoons

  • Dried button red chillies 4

  • Ginger grated 2 teaspoons

  • Lemon juice 1 tablespoon

  • Fresh coriander sprigs for garnish


Step 1

Cut potatoes into ½ inch pieces and set aside.

Step 2

Put almonds and poppy seeds in a blender jar and blind to a fine powder.

Step 3

Take yogurt in a bowl, add almond-poppy seed powder, mawa, salt and green cardamom powder and mix well.

Step 4

Heat oil in a non-stick pan, add button red chillies and ginger, mix and sauté for 1 minute. Add the potatoes, mix well and sauté for 2-3 minutes on medium heat.

Step 5

Add the yogurt mixture and mix well. Cook for 4-5 minutes on medium heat.

Step 6

Add lemon juice and mix well.

Step 7

Transfer into a serving bowl, garnish with coriander sprigs and serve hot.
