Indian cuisine comprises of a number of regional cuisines.  The diversity in soil type, climate, culture, ethnic group and occupations, these cuisines differ from each other mainly due to the use of locally available spices, herbs, vegetables and fruits. Indian food is also influenced by religious and cultural choices and traditions. 
Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Jain Missi Roti Recipe

  • Whole wheat flour (atta) 3-4 tablespoons

  • Gram flour (besan) 3-4 tablespoons

  • Soyabean flour 4-5 tablespoons

  • Green chillies finely chopped 2-3

  • Cabbage finely chopped 1 tablespoon

  • Fresh coriander finely chopped 1 tablespoon

  • Dried pomegranate seeds (anardana) 1 teaspoons

  • Turmeric powder ¼ teaspoon

  • Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon

  • Cumin - Coriander powder 1 teaspoon

  • Garam masala powder 1 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Oil 1 tablespoon + for shallow frying

  • Butter for garnishing

  • Yogurt to serve


Step 1

Mix gram flour, soy bean flour and wheat flour in a bowl.

Step 2

Add chillies, cabbage, coriander, pomegranate kernels, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander-cumin powder, garam masala powder and salt.

Step 3

Add oil and water and knead into a soft dough. Set aside for 5 minutes.

Step 4

Heat a non-stick tawa.

Step 5

Divide the dough into equal portions, shape them into balls and roll out a thin disc.

Step 6

Place the missi roti on hot tawa, drizzle oil and shallow-fry on both the sides till done.

Step 7

Garnish with butter and serve with yogurt.
