Yes, though other meats being more common, biryani eaters all over the world can easily swear by mutton. And not just biryanis, curries, bakes and all other preparations with this wonderful meat are always special. Did you know, unlike other dishes, a day-old mutton prep will always be all the more tastier on the palate! Try it the next time you plan on to take on this meat.

Ingredients for Gode Mutton Recipe

  • Mutton 1 1/2 inch pieces on the bone 1 kilogram

  • Garlic Paste 1 1/2 tablespoons

  • Ginger paste 1 1/2 tablespoons

  • Salt to taste

  • Turmeric powder 1 teaspoon

  • Caraway seeds (shahi jeera) 2 teaspoons

  • Green cardamoms 2

  • Cinnamon 1 inch stick

  • Cloves 4

  • Ghee 4 tablespoons

  • Fresh coriander leaves,chopped 2 tablespoons

Method

Step 1

Apply ginger paste, garlic paste, salt and turmeric powder to the mutton pieces and set aside for two hours preferably in a refrigerator.

Step 2

Roast caraway seeds, green cardamoms, cinnamon and cloves, lightly on a thick tawa, separately. Mix, cool and grind to a fine power in a mortar with a pestle. Heat ghee in a pan, add the marinated mutton and sauté for four to five minutes.

Step 3

Add two cups of water and bring it to a boil. Simmer on low heat till mutton is almost done. Add the prepared masala powder and adjust salt if necessary.

Step 4

Serve hot garnished with coriander leaves.
