How many times have we thought rice is a blessing? We use it for holy purposes but we also can pressure up a quick pulao or khichdi when hunger pangs are drumming away! This is one grain that is about 98% percent digestible. In India we are familiar with Basmati, Patna or brown rice but it is also available as Italian Rice and Glutinous Rice which is popular in Chinese and Japanese cuisines.

Ingredients for Chakli Sticks-SK Khazana Recipe

  • Rice 2 cups

  • Split skinless black gram (dhuli urad dal) 1/2 cup

  • Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon

  • Cumin powder 1 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Butter 2 tablespoons

  • Oil for greasi to deep fry


Step 1

Dry roast rice and black gram separately. Remove from heat, cool and grind together to a fine powder. Transfer into a mixing bowl.

Step 2

Add chilli powder, cumin powder, salt and butter and knead well. Add ½ cup water and knead to a soft dough.

Step 3

Grease a chakli press with some oil and fill in the dough.

Step 4

Heat sufficient oil in a kadai. Press in chakli strips directly into hot oil and deep-fry till golden brown. Drain on absorbent paper and cool.

Step 5

Serve or store in airtight container.
