History of Indian cuisine dates back to nearly 5,000-years ago when various groups and cultures interacted with India that led to a diversity of flavours and regional cuisines.
Indian cuisine comprises of a number of regional cuisines.  The diversity in soil type, climate, culture, ethnic group and occupations, these cuisines differ from each other mainly due to the use of locally available spices, herbs, vegetables and fruits. Indian food is also influenced by religious and cultural choices and traditions. 
Foreign invasions, trade relations and colonialism had introduced certain foods to the country like potato, chillies and breadfruit.

Ingredients for Apple Sheera Recipe

  • Medium apple peeled and chopped 1

  • Dry roasted semolina 1 cup

  • Ghee 3 tablespoons

  • Salt 1 pinch

  • Milk 3 cups

  • Saffron a large pi

  • Sugar 1 cup

  • Green cardamom powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Pistachios blanched and slivered 10-12

  • Apple slices a few to garnish

Method

Step 1

Heat ghee in a deep non-stick bottom pan, add semolina and saute for 2-3 minutes. Add apple, mix and saute for 4-5 minutes.

Step 2

Add salt and mix well. Add milk and mix. Add saffron, mix, cover the pan and cook till all the liquid is absorbed.

Step 3

Add sugar and cardamom powder, mix well, cover and cook till for 5-6 minutes.

Step 4

Transfer the sheera into a serving bowl, garnish with apple slices and pistachio slivers and serve warm.
