Ingredients
- Chocolate-hazelnut spread to apply
- 2 medium red apples, peeled and chopped
- 8 white bread slices
- 2 teaspoons butter + to apply
- 2 one-inch cinnamon sticks
- ½ cup sugar
- ½ lemon
- A large pinch of nutmeg powder
- Sweetened cream cheese to apply
- Tea/coffee for serving
Method
- Heat butter in a shallow non-stick pan, add apples and cinnamon sticks and sauté on high heat for 2-3 minutes.
- Add sugar and ½ cup water, mix and cook on medium heat for 5-6 minutes or till the apples turn soft.
- Discard the cinnamon sticks, squeeze the juice of lemon and mix. Add nutmeg powder and mix. Take the pan off the heat and allow to cool.
- Place the bread slices on worktop and apply cream cheese on top.
- Place the apple mixture on 4 bread slices and apply the chocolate-hazelnut spread on the remaining bread slices. Place the chocolate spread bread slices upside down on the apple bread slices.
- Preheat a sandwich griller, apply butter on both sides of the prepared sandwiches, place them on the griller and grill for 5-6 minutes.
- Halve each sandwich diagonally, arrange them on a serving platter and serve with tea/coffee.
