Bhakri

A light, soft, rice flour flatbread, the bhakri can be served with pithla, thechaa, chicken/mutton/vegetable curry. Makes an excellent and filling meal.

Method

  1. Sift rice flour and salt in a large bowl. Add 1¼ cups warm water and knead into a soft dough. 
  2. Divide dough into 4 portions and shape each portion into a ball.
  3. Dust the worktop with a little rice flour. Flatten each portion of the dough on the worktop and roll it into a disc with your fingers. This is a bhakri.
  4. Heat a non-stick tawa till medium hot and place the bhakri on it.
  5. As it is being cooked, apply water on the topside of the bhakri and sprinkle white sesame seeds. Flip it and cook the other side similarly.
  6. Make more bhakri similarly.
  7. The bhakri should be soft and fluffy. Serve hot.
