Ingredients list for Vella Fae

  • 1 cup Semolina (rawa/suji)
  • for cooking Ghee ½ teaspoon +
  • ½ cup Sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Cashewnuts broken
  • 1 teaspoon Green cardamom powder
  • a pinch Soda bicarbonate
  • ¾ cup Milk


  1. Dry roast semolina in a non-stick pan till fragrant.
  2. Heat ½ teaspoon ghee in another non-stick pan. Add semolina, mix and sauté on low heat till 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat, transfer into a bowl and cool down to room temperature.
  3. Add sugar, cashewnuts, cardamom powder and soda bicarbonate. Add milk gradually and mix well to make a smooth batter. Set aside for 10 minutes.
  4. Heat a paniyaram pan. Pour a few drops of ghee in each dent. Pour a spoonful of batter into each dent, cover and cook on low heat for 2-3 minutes on each side or till they become fluffy and golden.
  5. Serve immediately.
