Favourite seafood? Prawns, prawns and more of prawns. A wide variety of small crustaceans, tiny relatives of the lobster, are known as prawns. Prawns are normally translucent when raw but get their distinctive pink or red colour on being cooked. one word of caution – if buying unpeeled prawns, smell for freshness and look for bright, shiny shells that have some spring left in them.

Ingredients for Thecha Prawns - SK Khazana Recipe

  • Medium prawns shelled, deveined, washed and patted dry 25

  • Salt to taste

  • Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Oil 1 1/2 tablespoons

  • Thecha

  • Light green chillies 20-25

  • Garlic cloves peeled 20-25

  • Oil 2 tablespoons

  • Cumin seeds 2 teaspoons

  • Raw peanuts 1/2 cup

  • Salt to taste


Step 1

Remove the stems of the green chillies and chop them roughly.

Step 2

To make thecha, heat 2 tbsps oil in a kadai, add cumin seeds and saute till their colour changes. Add garlic, mix and sauté for 2 minutes. Add peanuts, mix and sauté for 3-4 minutes or till golden brown. Add green chillies, mix well and sauté for 3-4 minutes. Add salt and mix well. Take it off the heat.

Step 3

Transfer the mixture into a mortar and pound with the pestle to a coarse paste.

Step 4

Take prawns in another bowl, add salt and turmeric powder, mix well and set aside for 10 minutes.

Step 5

Heat 1½ tbsps oil in the same kadai, add the thecha and sauté for 1 minute.

Step 6

Add prawns, mix well and saute till the prawns are cooked.

Step 7

Transfer into a serving bowl and serve hot.
