Sesame and Banana Bread

Ingredients list for Sesame and Banana Bread

  • ½ cup Sesame seeds (til) toasted
  • 1/3 cup + for dusting Refined flour (maida)
  • 2 Ripe bananas peeled and mashed
  • ½ cup Whole wheat flour (atta)
  • for greasing Butter
  • ½ brown sugar/jaggery
  • a pinch Baking soda ¼ teaspoon +
  • ¼ teaspoon Salt
  • 1 tablespoon Extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 large Egg lightly beaten
  • 2 tablespoons Yogurt
  • Glaze -
  • 1 cup Castor sugar (caster sugar)
  • ¼ cup brown sugar/jaggery
  • Juice of ½ lemon


  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C. Grease a loaf tin with some butter and dust with some refined flour.
  2. Combine together the refined flour, wheat flour, brown sugar, baking soda and salt in a bowl and mix well. Add the sesame seeds and mix.
  3. Combine together the olive oil, egg, banana and yogurt in another bowl and mix well. Add this to the flour mixture and fold well.
  4. Pour the batter in the greased tin, put the tin in the preheated oven and bake for forty-five minutes. Remove from oven, cool and demould.
  5. To make the glaze, heat a non-stick pan. Add the castor sugar, brown sugar, lemon juice and one tablespoon water, mix and cooktill the sugar melts.
  6. Drizzle the prepared glaze on the bread, spread evenly, slice and serve.
