Ingredients list for Rice for Biryani

  • 1 1/2 cup Basmati rice , soaked for 15-20 minutes and drained
  • 2 tablespoons Ghee
  • 2 Bay leaves
  • 4-5 Cloves
  • 3-4 Green cardamoms
  • 5-6 Black peppercorns
  • 1/2 teaspoon Caraway seeds
  • to taste Salt
  • a few Saffron strands


  1. Heat ghee in a deep non-stick pan, add bay leaves, cloves, green cardamoms, peppercorns and caraway seeds and sauté till fragrant.
  2. Add 5 cups water, salt and saffron, mix and bring the mixture to boil.
  3. Add rice, mix and cook till ¾ done. Drain in a colander.
  4. Spread on a tray, cool and use as required.
