Ingredients for Podalanga Masala Recipe

  • Snake gourd (padwal) 1

  • Scraped coconut 1/4 cup

  • Dried red chillies 2

  • Fennel seeds (saunf) 2 tablespoons

  • Salt to taste

  • Oil 2 tablespoons

  • Mustard seeds 1/2 teaspoon

  • Curry leaves 12-14

  • Split Bengal gram (chana dal) soaked and boiled 1/2 cup

Method

Step 1

Slit the snake gourd vertically, remove seeds and cut into thin slices.

Step 2

Grind fennel seeds, red chillies, coconut and salt with a little water.

Step 3

Heat oil in a non stick pan. Add mustard seeds, and when they splutter, add curry leaves and mix well.

Step 4

Add snake gourd and mix well.

Step 5

Add the ground masala and little water and mix well.

Step 6

Cover and cook for 2-3 minutes, on a low heat.Add chana dal and salt and mix well.

Step 7

Cover again and cook for 2-3 minutes. Serve hot.
