Pizza Sauce

Originated essentially from Italian cuisine, Pizza has garnered many fans from India. Better than the average store bought Pizza Sauce, this one is much more authentic and flavorful This is a Sanjeev Kapoor exclusive recipe.

Ingredients 

  • 1 cup fresh tomato puree
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped garlic 
  • 1 medium Onion , finely chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • Crushed black peppercorns to taste
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon red chilli flakes
  • 1 tablespoon tomato ketchup
  • 3-4 fresh basil leaves + to garnish 
  • 2 pizza bases
  • Toppings of your choice
  • Mozzarella cheese as required

Method

  1. Heat olive oil in a non-stick pan, add garlic and sauté for 2 minutes.
  2. Add onion, mix and sauté till golden brown. Add tomato puree, mix and saute for a minute. Add salt and peppercorn and mix well. Add 1 cup water and mix, and cook for a minute.
  3. Add paprika and red chilli flakes and mix well. Add tomato ketchup, mix and sauté on medium heat for 5-7 minutes. Tear and add basil leaves and mix well. Remove the pan from heat and let the sauce cool.
  4. Preheat the oven to 180º C.
  5. Keep the pizza base on a baking tray, spread a ladleful of pizza sauce on it. Top with topping of your choice and mozzarella cheese. Bake for 5 minutes. Make another pizza similarly.
  6. Serve the sauce as a dip with pizza.
