How many times have we thought rice is a blessing? We use it for holy purposes but we also can pressure up a quick pulao or khichdi when hunger pangs are drumming away! This is one grain that is about 98% percent digestible. In India we are familiar with Basmati, Patna or brown rice but it is also available as Italian Rice and Glutinous Rice which is popular in Chinese and Japanese cuisines.

Ingredients for Imli Tilwale Chawal - SK Khazana Recipe

  • Cooked rice 3 cups

  • Tamarind pulp 2 tablespoons

  • Oil 2 tablespoons

  • Mustard seeds 1/2 teaspoon

  • Split Bengal gram (chana dal) 1/2 teaspoon

  • Split black gram skinless (dhuli urad dal) 1/2 teaspoon

  • Asafoetida a pinch

  • Curry leaves 8-10

  • Dried red chillies 2

  • Green chilli chopped 1

  • Salt to taste

  • Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon

  • Roasted peanuts peeled 1/2 cup

  • White sesame seeds for garnish + 1 tablespoon

  • coriander sprig for garnish

Method

Step 1

Heat oil in a non-stick wok, add mustard seeds, split Bengal gram, , split black gram, and saute till the colour of the grams change.

Step 2

Add asafoetida, curry leaves, broken dried red chillies and green chilli and mix well.

Step 3

Add tamarind pulp and 2-3 tbsps water and mix well. Add salt, turmeric powder, roasted peanuts, sesame seeds and rice and mix well. Cover and cook on medium heat for 2-3 minutes.

Step 4

Transfer into a serving bowl, garnish with sesame seeds and a coriander sprig and serve hot.
