Ingredients
- 1½ cups gram flour
- 2½ tablespoons oil + to deep fry
- ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon carom seeds (ajwain)
- Salt to taste
- ½ teaspoon red chilli powder
- Hot tea to serve
Method
- Heat 2½ tablespoons of oil in a non-stick pan on low heat.
- Take gram flour in a bowl and add the hot oil, turmeric powder, carom seeds, salt and red chilli powder. Add a little water and mix well. Add 1 tsp oil and combine well to make a semi-soft dough.
- Grease oil in a chakli press fitted with a sev attachment. Grease palms with oil. Shape the mixture into a thick, long cylinder and place it inside the chakli press.
- Heat sufficient oil in a kadai, press out the mixture directly into hot oil and deep-fry till golden. Drain on absorbent paper. Set aside to cool down.
- Break the ganthia into pieces and serve with cups of hot tea.
