Ingredients for Chocolate Lemon Marble Cake Recipe

  • Refined flour (maida) 2 cups + for dusting

  • Cocoa powder 2 tablespoons

  • Italian lemon 1

  • Eggs 2

  • Butter 100 grams + for greasing

  • Powdered sugar 1 1/4 cups

  • Salt 1/2 teaspoon

  • Baking powder 2 teaspoons

  • Vanilla essence 1 teaspoon

  • Milk 1 cup

  • Dark chocolate chips a few

Method

Step 1

Preheat oven to 180° C. Grease a baking loaf tin with some butter and dust with some flour.

Step 2

Break eggs into a bowl and whisk with an electric beater. Add 100 grams butter and whisk till light. Add powdered sugar and whisk well.

Step 3

Sift together refined flour, salt and baking powder into the bowl. Add vanilla essence and milk and fold in well to a smooth batter.

Step 4

Put ¼ of the batter into another bowl. Sift cocoa powder into this bowl and mix well.

Step 5

Grate lemon zest into the bowl with the plain batter and mix well.

Step 6

Divide plain batter into 3 equal portions. Put one portion of plain batter and spread. Spread half the cocoa batter over. Top this with the 2nd portion of plain batter and spread remaining cocoa batter over it. Spread the remaining plain batter on top and spread evenly.

Step 7

Swirl the layers with a satay stick to give a marble effect, sprinkle dark chocolate chips top and tap.

Step 8

Place the tin on a baking tray. Put the tray into the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes. Remove from oven, cool and demould.

Step 9

Slice, keep the slices on serving plate and serve.
