Ingredients list for Chatpata Fafda

  • 1 1/2 cup Gram flour (besan)
  • 1 cup + for deep-frying Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon Asafoetida
  • 1/2 teaspoon Soda bicarbonate
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Crushed black peppercorns


  1. Combine 1 cup oil, soda and 1 cup water in a bowl and mix it with blender till white.
  2. Put gram flour in a bowl, add salt, cumin powder and asafoetida and the prepared mixture and mix well. Knead into a dough.
  3. Divide the mixture into balls and place each ball on a wooden worktop, stretch them straight to make a fafda. Similarly prepare the rest.
  4. Heat sufficient oil in a kadai, deep-fry the fafada till yellow and crisp on both the sides. Sprinkle salt and crushed peppercorns.
  5. Serve hot.
