Ingredients list for Chanadal Halwa

  • 1 cup Split Bengal gram (chana dal) Soaked in water for 3-4 hours
  • 1/2 cup Khoya/mawa grated
  • 1/2 cup + teaspoon Ghee
  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon Green cardamom powder
  • 2 tablespoons Cashewnuts finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons Raisins for garnish


  1. Heat ½ cup ghee in a non stick pan. Add chana dal and cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring continuously.
  2. Add khoya, sugar and green cardamom powder and cook for 8-10 minutes on low heat, stirring continuously, till the mixture thickens.
  3. Heat ½ tsp ghee in another non stick pan, add cashewnuts and raisins and sauté till they turn golden.
  4. Transfer the halwa into a serving bowl. Garnish with cashewnuts and raisins and serve.
